Metaphors for Life
Many traditions understand the power of teaching through stories. Our minds find a special repository for them. We unconsciously draw from this metaphorical resource bank when we need it most — to guide and nourish us. Here you will find such tales, quotes and prose. As they have come to me, I pass them on to you just as our ancestors have done since the world was young.

What is the source of our first suffering? It lies in the fact that we hesitated to speak. It was born in the moment when we accumulated silent things within us.

— Gaston Bachelard

Inspirations
Life is nothing if but levels of learning, whether or not we freely enter the Perpetual School. We actually have no choice in the matter. In this column, I offer you philosophy, musings and information that you may take with you as they fit into your own lyceum.

Review
More often than not, the publications or music you will find reviewed here will not be new or "bestsellers." Websites or organizations may not be well known. But all are spotlighted by virtue of their impact and value.

Sacred Fire Foundation

Sacred Fire Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supporting initiatives that honor and sustain Indigenous traditional knowledge and ancestral ways. Sound familiar? Imagine my excitement to have learned more about Sacred Fire! The mission of Kenosis Spirit Keepers and theirs is exactly aligned and we’re doing much the same work in just slightly different formats. Their two main projects are Sacred Fire, a print magazine, and Ancient Wisdom Rising, an annual gathering of traditional elders and Indigenous Wisdom Keepers.

The Foundation talks about Sacred Fire magazine as “a modern voice to ancient traditions” and “an antidote to spiritual amnesia.” A beautiful intent that emerges through the writings of such noted Spirit Keepers as Grandmother Agnes Baker Pilgrim, Martín Prechtel, Malidoma Somé and many others – teachers you would never be able to read in a mainstream publication. Sacred Fire is also visually beautiful with photographs that illustrate ceremonies and ancestral ways.

Annually, Ancient Wisdom Rising brings together traditional Elders and hundreds of people who are ready to learn and be the bridges we need so badly in today’s chaotic world. This year the gathering will be held May 19-22 in Port Townsend, Washington. For three days, seven Elders will share their traditions through presentations, ceremony, storytelling and more.

I am delighted to announce that Sacred Fire Foundation and Kenosis Spirit Keepers has just formed an alliance. The outcome has yet to be fully discovered. However, you, the readers of Kenosis Inspirations, are immediate beneficiaries of this collaboration with the following invitation.

Ancient Wisdom Rising is offering friends of Kenosis Spirit Keepers a discounted rate to participate in this special gathering on May 19-22. In order to register and receive the discount, go to Ancient Wisdom Rising and choose "Special Registrant" on the first page of the registration form, after you’ve filled in your demographics. A pop-up will come up under that and you then type the code KENOSIS. This will give you a discount of $80 off the current registration price. Then go in and choose your lodging and food, accordingly.

When we come together in common purpose we are strengthened, the resulting energy exponential. As I gaze ahead, I can only see a dynamic outcome to this fledgling collaboration between Sacred Fire Foundation and Kenosis Spirit Keepers.
